Wifi4EU

The Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA) has been informed by the Department of Electronic Communications of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works about the WiFi4EU portal which was launched recently by the European Commission.

From now on, municipalities across Europe are invited to register their data in view of the first call for projects in mid-May to be able to benefit from EU funding to create public hotspots for free wireless internet access.

The WiFi4EU program offers cities 15 000 EUR vouchers to install Wi-Fi hotspots in public places such as libraries, museums, public parks and squares. The WiFi4EU initiative aims to connect every European village and every European city with free wireless internet access in the main centers of public life by 2020.
Municipalities can use the WiFi4EU coupons to purchase and install Wi-Fi (wireless access point) equipment in the local public life centers they have chosen. The maintenance costs of the network will be covered by the municipality.
